Hi, I'm Harmony. I founded Mamatoto.

My first baby wouldn't be put down. Not for a single second. We eventually just gave the pram away.

Before he arrived I was climbing mountains, running an architectural design business and saying yes to most things that scared me a little. After he arrived, I had postnatal depression that I was quietly trying to hold together while keeping everything else going too.

Babywearing helped. Not in a fix-everything way, but in the way that having your baby close, your hands free, and your body moving through the world again does something for you. It gave me a sense of self back that I hadn't realised I'd lost.

The only problem was the carrier I had. It had positions I never used, a bulky waistband that sat all wrong, and even with my baby strapped to me I still needed a bag. So hands free wasn't really hands free at all. He'd sit tucked against me in the kitchen and open his little mouth for whatever I was cooking, like a baby bird waiting to be fed.

That's where The Nest got its name.

I designed Mamatoto because I genuinely thought I could do it better. Minimal shoulder straps with real shape instead of bulky padding. An apron-style waistband that sits higher and contours to your body. A back carrier based on the traditional Japanese onbuhimo that goes on from sitting, solo, no second pair of hands needed. And a bag that clips to the carrier so you can be truly, completely hands free.

Every decision came from a real moment. Something that frustrated me, something I wished I'd had, something that would have made those early days just a little easier.

Mamatoto carriers are certified hip healthy by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute, made from 100% linen and genuine leather, and designed in Australia. They're built to last well beyond the newborn phase and to move with you through all of it.

I'm now a homeschooling mum of two, living on the east coast of Australia. The early days are behind me, but I built Mamatoto inside them. And every carrier that leaves here carries a little of that with it.

Hands free. Hearts full.

Harmony xx
